  In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, crimes such as prostitution, trafficking in women, smuggling and counterfeiting were identified as social evils that destroyed the state and society from within. This study traces the problems and changes in Bulgarian legislation in the modern Bulgarian state related to these types of crimes, which became part of international agreements during the interwar period, when the world laid the foundations for legislative prevention against organized crime and social evils.
